Labour Minister C.T.Chellapandian has declared open a new building for Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Arasanimuthupatti in Sivaganga block.
The Government ITI was started in 2007 in a building belonging to the Public Works Department and now the government has built a new building for the ITI at a cost of Rs.1.56 crore, the Minister said addressing a function after declaring open the building on Friday.
Stating that the government provided a monthly assistance of Rs.500 to all students, irrespective of their communal and social background, he said the students should make use of the welfare assistance and come up in life.
Speaking at the function, presided over by Collector V.Rajaraman, S.Gokula Indira, Tourism Minister, said the government was bearing the educational expenses of students right from primary education to professional courses and had allocated Rs.17,000 crore for education department this financial year.
The Ministers later distributed free bi-cycles, enhanced monthly assistance to students and tri-cycles to differently abled people, a release said. Earlier, Ms Gokula Indira launched the distribution of special Pongal gift hampers and free dhotis and saris at Paniyur. She said in Sivaganga district, Pongal gift hampers would be distributed to 3.67 lakh people through 807 fair price shops.
