VELLORE: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has waived installation charges for new telephone connections till July 29. The deposit amount for the new connections would be collected in four instalments, according to a release from the office of the General Manager, BSNL, Vellore.
The BSNL has introduced annual/biennial fixed charge plans for landline and wireless in local loop (WLL) services, with effect from May 1.
For rural areas
For the rural areas, the BSNL has introduced plan 600, which entails an annual charge of Rs.600 with 360 annual free calls, the tariff being 80 paise a minute. Plan 1000, also for rural areas, entails an annual charge of Rs.1,000 (360 annual free calls), the tariff being Re.1 a minute. For the urban areas, the BSNL has introduced Plan 2160, which entails biennial charges of Rs. 2,160 (1,200 free calls for two years), the tariff being Re.1 a minute. Plan 1800 for urban areas entails annual charges of Rs.1,800 (600 free calls), the tariff being Re.1 a minute.
The BSNL has introduced a new broadband plan called Home 125 for which the monthly charge is Rs.125. It has also introduced a new mobile plan Wonder Plus which provides for a starter pack for Rs.249, giving a talk value of Rs.80.
The unique feature of this plan is that there is no need to recharge for seven years.
One of the latest customer-friendly features introduced by BSNL is the ‘phone on phone’ service, under which, by dialling the toll-free number 1550, a customer could register for a new telephone connection, broadband connection, public call offices or any other add-on facility. The BSNL official of the customer area would visit the premises of the customers and fulfil their requirements according to the customers’ convenience.
Unlimited Internet facility
Another latest attraction of the BSNL is the data cards. These cards enable the customers to have unlimited Internet facility at a speed of 144 kbps in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts. Two mbps EVDO (Evolution Data-Optimised) cards are also available in Katpadi, and this facility would be expanded shortly to new stations. The 144 kbps data cards are available for Rs.2,800 and EVDO cards for Rs.3,500. The monthly charges for these cards are Rs.250 and Rs.550 respectively.BSNL mobile customers could now book a complaint of their faulty landline, or know their last month landline bill amount, and also the address of a landline customer through SMS. For booking a fault, they should message FLT space STD code + phone number to 9442131550. For knowing the bill amount, they should message BILL space STD code + phone number to 9442131550. To get an address, they should message DIR space STD code + phone number to 53333.
The BSNL has introduced a scheme for big corporate customers, educational institutions and hotels, who may request 51 or more extensions. Such institutional customers would be provided free EPABX services bundled along with voice and data connectivity.
There would be no capital investment in EPABX, no maintenance cost, and no recurring expenditure. The charge is Rs.75 per port.
