The Student Tablet computers to be launched by BSNL will provide engineering course materials and relieve the students from the burden of carrying huge books, said R. Ramesh, Senior General Manager (Enterprise Business), Chennai BSNL.

He said this while delivering the inaugural address at Quantaz’13, a national level technical symposium, organised by Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of Arunai Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai on Friday.

Later speaking to reporters, he said that Student Tablets will have only apps for accessing the study material and through Internet connection they can access the data provided by a service provider company ‘Bodhi.’

The product would be launched in a couple of months, he added.

“Now we have Optical Fibre Cables (OFC) for main lines and individual telephone subscribers are linked with the OFC line through copper cables. BSNL plans to replace the copper cables with optical fibre ones. Through Fibre to Home plan subscribers can easily access voice, data and video. In future it will provide an opportunity for us to provide video on demand,” he added.

He also said that BSNL provides web hosting for individuals and offer a service to maintain computer networks of companies in Chennai.
