ERODE: Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. will soon launch 3G service in Erode.

“By the first or second week of October, we should be in a position to offer the service,” V. Sundar, general manager, told The Hindu.

As and when it is launched, BSNL customers in Erode city will be able to avail themselves of the high-speed service, which facilitates video conferencing, video call and hi-speed internet access on the mobile. To offer the service BSNL has upgraded 31 towers and added another 14.


At present the company is also engaged in testing its mobile switching centre, the heart of the network operations, and base switching centre.

Aside from the 3G service, BSNL is also strengthening its service in the district.

“We are in the process of adding 116 3G-enabled towers to the existing 185 to provide comprehensive coverage,” the general manager adds.
