Bomb threat delays poll

CUDDALORE: Bomb threat delayed conduct of indirect elections to various committees of the Chidambaram Municipality by about two hours on Thursday.

The police received an anonymous call stating that bombs planted on the municipal premises would explode soon.

Immediately, a bomb disposal squad from Cuddalore rushed to the spot and made a thorough search of the campus. However, the threat turned out to be a hoax.

After getting clearance from the police, the civic body went ahead with the poll. Till the election process was completed heavy police picketing was posted at the municipality. Special Correspondent

VAOs' transfer through counselling

CHENNAI: Transfer of Village Administrative Officers will be made through counselling from now on. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had ordered that transfers be made though counselling.

The order was, however, kept in abeyance because of the local body elections, says a press release. Special Correspondent

Quiz contest on December 2

CHENNAI: The Ad Club-Business Line Quiz 2006 will be conducted on December 2, as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Advertising Club Madras.

The event is sponsored by Indian Overseas Bank and the National Institute of Business Management. The quiz will be conducted by management consultant Suresh Kumar.

Each participating team will consist of two members and the top six teams will participate in the finals. Entry fee is Rs. 2,500 for corporate teams and Rs. 750 for student teams.

Online visa facilities to UAE launched

CHENNAI: Air Arabia, the international low fares airline in India, which recently introduced flights between Sharjah and Chennai, has launched online visa facilities to UAE. According to Mayank Dhingra, Air Arabia's Manager for Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, the facility will ensure quicker processing time and facilitate smoother exit at Sharjah airport. The visa charges are only Rs.3,050. Air Arabia applies a guarantee procedure and the visa process takes three to four working days.

NABARD training programme

Chennai: NABARD will conduct a training programme for postal department staff in Sivagangai and Karaikudi districts on November 18 and 19, in the run-up to a project to link post offices with self-help groups, a press release here said.
