Doctors as caregivers should treat patients politely and courteously, thereby bridging the gap with their patients, said S.S.Palani Manickam, Union Minister of State for Finance here on Saturday.
The Minister who was releasing a book titled “Unavum Nala Vazhvum” (Food and healthy life) authored by N.Mohandoss, Nephrologist, said that by maintaining a strong relationship with patients, doctors indirectly instil confidence and courage in them. Thanjai Ramamoorthy, senior advocate received the fist copy. While awareness on health is lacking, books like “Unavum Nala Vazhvum” will portray the right message to the people. Food by itself is a medicine for those with ailments like diabetes, blood pressure, heart diseases and obesity. “Dr.Mohandoss, in his book has prescribed the types of food that patients should take,” the Minister said.
“It is easy to write poem and novels. But it is difficult to write on technical subjects. For this doctors should have mastery over language in both Tamil and English,” he said. Mr. Ramamoorthy said that the foundation stone for achieving the government's cherished goal of translating works in the fields of Engineering, Medicine into Tamil, has been laid by Mr. Mohandoss with his book. Dr.Mohandoss said the Kalaignar's Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatment has saved the lives of many poor people . “Nearly 30 poor patients kidney stones were treated in my hospital under the scheme,” he said.
P.Gowthaman, Publisher, Panbu Nool Veliyeettagan, welcomed the gathering.
