A private school situated close to the Villupuram Taluk Police Station received a bomb threat on Tuesday causing panic among students, staff and the parents.

Police sources said a letter carrying the threat message in Tamil was found on the table of the Principal on Tuesday morning.

It warned that explosives planted in school would go off soon. Students and staff were alerted and all of them were assembled in the school ground.

On information, police rushed to the school along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and a sniffer dog.

Meanwhile, anxious parents started gathering in front of the school. After a thorough search, police announced that there were no explosives or suspicious objects anywhere in the premises. Even though it was a hoax threat, investigation was on to trace the person who had left the letter in the Principal’s room, police said.
