In a daring incident, a six-member gang hurled a country-made bomb at a 70-year-old farmer, V.Chellapathevar, of Pannamparai in Sathankulam on Tuesday.

Property dispute among his family members led to the attack on Mr.Chellapathevar, police sources said.

The gang, which came in a car, hurled the bomb at the farmer who was returning home from his farm, at Karumeniyar bridge in Sathankulam at around 10.30 a.m. He suffered injuries on his legs and hip. The gang, then, pulled Mr.Chellapathevar into the car and left him at his sister’s residence at Valasaikinaru.

He was taken to the Sathankulam Government Hospital, from where he was sent to the Tirunelveli Government Hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by him, the Sathankulam police filed a case against his relatives S.Kumar, S.Popandi, S.Veldurai, S.Sudalai, all from Pannamparai, M.Chinna Esakki and A.Kali (38), both from Sathankulam, under Sections 147, 148, 294 (b), 307, 363 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Indian Explosive Substances Act. The police later arrested Kali and remanded him in custody. A manhunt has been launched for the other accused.
