The body of Janani, the 18-year-old college student who along with her family members drowned in River Bhavani on Wednesday, was found and retrieved near a pump house in Sirumugai.

D. Satheesh Kumar, Municipal Chairman, Mettupalayam, said that the Fire and Rescue Services personnel and those engaged in the search operation found the body around 4.30 p.m. Thursday. The body was taken to the GH for post-mortem.

Sources said that the release of water from the Pilloor Dam increased the inflow in the river, which led to the incident. Mr. Kumar said that the siren sounded at the dam could be heard only for around 3 km.

He said that he had proposed to the office of the Commissioner for Municipal Administration to put in place an automatic alarm system, which would get triggered as and when the water level increased.
