A large number of tourists witnessed the annual boat race organised by the Nilgiris district summer festival committee at the Ooty Lake on Tuesday.

Despite the event being conducted on a week day owing to the summer festival being delayed on account of the Assembly elections the response was good.

Participating enthusiastically, some of the tourists said that such activities made their visit to the Blue Mountains worthwhile.

Pointing out that memories of such programmes will linger long, they said that only in places like Ooty can tourists witness such events amidst sylvan surroundings. Adverting to the condition of the lake water, they said that it should kept pollution free.
