Dumeril's Black Headed snake was rescued from a farmhouse in Kuniamuthur area on Tuesday.

The species is uncommon in this part of the country and was found only in Maharashtra and Sri Lanka.

The snake measures only a maximum of 10 inches and has the capacity to lay two to five eggs.

Insects

Insects and just-hatched snakes form its prey-base, said K. Rathish of ‘Save Our Snakes' who rescued the reptile It was later released into the forest area in Anaikatti.

Referring to the rescue of a number of snakes, including rare and endangered species, Mr. Rathish exhorted the general public not to harm or kill snakes.

Instead, they could seek the help of ‘Save Our Snakes' by dialling 97873-32814.

In the last one month, more than a dozen snakes, including cobra and some rare species, were rescued from houses at various places in and around Coimbatore city and suburbs, he said.
