Nagercoil: Bilateral talks on Parambikulam-Aliyar river issue will be held at the earliest to clear any misunderstanding between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, said Durai Murugan, Minister for Public Works, here on Friday. Official-level talks had already been held.

The Minister also released 200 cusecs of water from the Pechipparai dam for irrigation. Mr. Durai Murugan, who came to Kanyakumari district to participate in the golden jubilee celebration of the dam construction, said the government would not compromise on the State’s water resources rights.

He directed the officials to survey ponds in different parts of the district and desilt them.

All water bodies in the district will be desilted within two years. The needs of farmers in the district will be brought to the notice of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, he said.

Mr. Durai Murugan directed officials to complete the work on the Mambalathuraiaru Scheme near Padmanabhapuram on or before November.
