TIRUNELVELI: A total of 152 persons, including nine women, were arrested when they tried to block rail traffic at Shencottai railway station on Wednesday.

Since train services on the broad gauge did not commence even after the gauge conversion exercise was completed long ago, all political parties and the traders of Shencottai had announced that rail traffic at Shencottai would be blocked on September 5.

As the talks held between the protestors and the officials failed a couple of days ago, the protest committee announced that their agitation would be conducted as scheduled.

When the protestors came to the railway station to block traffic, the police used mild force to chase them away, in which a couple of protestors sustained minor injuries as they accidentally fell down.

Rail traffic at this station was not affected due to the protest.
