CUDDALORE: D. Ravikumar, MLA, inaugurated a five-day Bharat Nirman awareness programme organised by the Press Information Bureau at the Nandanar Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Chidambaram on Saturday.
He said the benefits of welfare programmes launched by the Centre and the State were yet to reach the target groups and attributed this to lack of awareness among people.
Mr. Ravikumar said that Cuddalore district continued to be socially, economically and educationally backward. Not many farmers knew about the farmers’ protection scheme and crop insurance scheme.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan had written to the Centre to organise awareness programmes.
The message would be taken to at least 20 villages in the district during the period through cultural events. An exhibition with 65 stalls highlighting the welfare and financial assistance schemes has also been organised.
