Minister distributes gold for ‘managalsutra’ and marriage assistance

A total of 3,400 grams of gold and marriage assistance to the tune of Rs.11.81 crore had been distributed to beneficiaries in the district this fiscal, said Minster for Power R. Viswanathan.

After distributing gold for ‘mangalsutra’ and marriage assistance to beneficiaries at a function held at the Collectorate near here on Saturday, he said that financial constraints should not come in the way of marriage of poor women.

This scheme had been formulated to remove that major hurdle between a poor girl’s marriage. Many schemes were being implemented by the state for the welfare of women.

Importance was also being given for improving literacy rate and reducing school dropout rate, he added.

Launching distribution of dresses to anganwadi children, he said that 9,524 children in Dindigul district would get dresses (This scheme was introduced in Tiruchi, Theni, Dindigul, Vellore and Chennai districts).

Mr. Viswanathan gave away 500 sovereigns of gold and marriage assistance of Rs.4.63 crore to beneficiaries.

About 1,000 beneficiaries assembled at the Collectorate.
