TIRUNELVELI: Pressing a charter of demands, the beedi rollers staged a demonstration in front of the Regional Employees Provident Fund Organisation Office at NGO Colony here on Tuesday.
They said the Government should give a minimum of Rs. 1,000 as pension.
Correction of age, if any, should be done based on the certificates furnished by the beneficiary.
Special teams, led by inspectors, should be formed to conduct surprise raids in the organisations which refuse to ensure provident fund benefits to their workers by registering them. Provident Fund contribution and the money meant for pension should not be invested in the share market, the beedi rollers said.
General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Beedi Workers’ Federation M. Rajangam inaugurated the protest.
