Plans are afoot to establish a beach on the Tharuvaikulam coast. Works will be taken up soon, Collector Ashish Kumar has said here on Monday. The new facility would certainly open up an avenue of entertainment for the people here.

While speaking to the reporters, he said two shuttle courts would come up at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh under self sufficient scheme at the proposed indoor stadium on the premises of District Sports Stadium.

On the eviction drive, he said encroachment from Tuticorin old bus station to Sub Collector’s Office near the Beach Road would be removed in the next phase. As per the court’s directive, encroached structures would be evicted on Palayamkottai Road also.

The grievance redressal mechanism launched recently with helpline numbers to represent grievances, would be functional round-the-clock, he said.

S. Amirtha Jothi, District Revenue Officer, was present. Earlier, A. Balamuniyasami of Pudurpandiapuram, Mela Arasadi in Ottapidaram, a beneficiary under self employment scheme, received a four-wheeler under THADCO subsidy.
