The beach attracted huge crowd on Wednesday on the occasion of ‘Kanum Pongal,’ the last day of the 4-day Pongal festivial.
People flocked the Beach Road, with hundreds of women and children moving around. Large number of tourists and local residents were seen in groups, greeting each other. Eateries along Beach Road did brisk business.
The beach was declared a vehicle-free area for the day. Police made elaborate security arrangements. Ambulances were stationed on the beach and Indian Reserve Battalion patrolled the area.
Huge crowds were seen in Bharathi Park, Botanical Garden, Ossudu Lake and Chunnambar boat house.
