Visitors can use it to have a ride through park and other areas surrounding it
Adding one more facility for the benefit of tourists visiting Sithannavasal, the district administration on Monday introduced battery car to enable visitors have a glimpse of the park and other areas surrounding the tourist site.
Collector A. Suganthi inaugurated the battery car facility at Sithannavasal, where the famous Jain monument is located, as well as the office of the Sithannavasal Development and Tourism Promotion Society floated by the district administration to ensure sustained maintenance and development of tourism infrastructure at the site.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that various facilities such as boating, musical fountain, sculpture park and children's park had been established at Sithannavasal with a view to attract more tourists to this spot.
The boating facility was introduced at a cost of Rs. 22 lakh followed by establishment of musical fountain and visitors' gallery at a cost of Rs. 51 lakh. She said that various works had been taken up with funds provided by different departments including Rs. One crore granted by the Tourism Department to improve basic facilities at Sithannavasal.
The battery car facility had been introduced at a cost of Rs. 3.6 lakh to enable the aged and children have a glimpse of the areas in and around the tourist spot, she said. A sum of Rs. 3.5 lakh had been earned over the last two months at Sithannavasal, the Collector said adding that 20 per cent of the amount had been given to local bodies. The Sithannavasal Development and Tourism Promotion Society comprises five full-time members. Superintendent of Police M.S. Muthusamy, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, S.S. Kumar, Joint Director (Agriculture) T. Thangavelu, Tourism Officer Dharmaraj and revenue officials took part.
