A batch of writs has been filed at the Madras High Court Bench here challenging a single judge’s order directing the State government to consider appointing a Special Officer to administer the affairs of Yadhava College of Education in Madurai.

The order was passed on recommendations made by the Inspector General of Registration following an inquiry into the allegations relating to the misappropriation of college funds by the members of Yadhavar Kalvi Nidhi, a registered society that administers the college.

In the appeal, the members of Yadhavar Kalvi Nithi alleged that the single judge’s order was liable to be set aside because the inquiry conducted by the IG of Registration did not come under the purview of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

The single judge upheld the decision of the Director of Collegiate Education (DCE) to pay the salaries directly to the staff members of the government-aided college till the conclusion of disputes between the warring groups.

The members alleged that the Inspector General’s inquiry was biased.
