All branches in the district of nationalised and private banks should have special counters to allow candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls open election expenditure accounts, V. Arun Roy, District Election Officer and Collector, said here.
The candidates should carry out transactions only through cheques, and could spend up to Rs 16 lakh but should maintain daily accounts, Mr. Roy said. Also, banks should send a list of customers withdrawing over Rs. 1 lakh to the manager of Lead District Bank, who, in turn should submit the list to the Personal Assistant to Collector (Accounts).
The list would be audited at the accounts department of the Collectorate, and suspicious transactions would be probed into, the Collector said. C. Prakasam, district revenue officer, R. Thirumavalavan, manager of Lead District Bank, K. Ramesh, personal assistant to Collector (Elections) and managers of various banks participated in the meeting.
