THANJAVUR: Banks in Thanjavur district have exceeded the target in disbursing loans during the year 2008-2009, said M. S. Shanmugham, Collector, here on Tuesday.

Speaking at meeting, he said that total loan disbursement during 2008-2009 was Rs. 1,279 crores. With respect to crop loans, the target was Rs. 872.23 crores and disbursement was Rs. 983.92 crores. The target for priority loans was Rs. 180 crores while the achievement was Rs. 210 crores. The banks have disbursed educational loans to the tune of Rs. 70 crores. For women self-help groups (SHGs), a revolving fund to the tune of Rs. 24.19 crores has been disbursed to 4,839 groups. Direct loans to the tune of Rs. 59.29 crores have been disbursed to 7,158 groups.

A project for Rs. 1.35 crores has been prepared for developing Thanjavur municipal town. Banks have come forward to improve parks. The bank has provided Rs. 2 lakhs for the purpose. The Collector thanked the banks for providing financial assistance for the operations of five poor children having heart ailments.

Venkatesa Prasad, Senior Regional Manager of Indian Overseas Bank, S. Ravikumar, Assistant General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, participated in the meeting.
