They protest the ongoing move to merge State Bank of Indore with State Bank of India
MADURAI: Banking activity in the district was affected on Wednesday as many employees did not turn up for work in response to a nation-wide strike call.
The strike call was given by All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) protesting the ongoing move to merge State Bank of Indore with its founder State Bank of India, the country’s largest bank.
K.R. Ravichandran, district president, Madurai-Ramnad District Bank Employees’ Union, R. Jawahar, district secretary of the union, and S. Ramesh, Secretary, AIBOA, Madurai district, led the agitation.
