Thanjavur: The Indian Overseas Bank, the lead bank, would have the maximum number of branches 41 from April 1 this year among all the banks in the district, said R. Vaidyanathan, Chief Regional Manager, IOB, Thanjavur region, here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of a full-fledged branch at the court complex here (hitherto the branch was only an extension counter of the bank), Mr. Vaidyanathan said another two extension counters functioning at the court complex at Kumbakonam and at Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA) University campus had been converted into full-fledged branches on Wednesday.

Three branches of Bharath Overseas Bank functioning at Pattukottai, Kumbakonam and Siramelkudi near Madukkur were amalgamated into IOB and would start functioning as IOB branches from April 1.

Mohamed Zafarullah Khan, Principal district Judge, inaugurated the court branch at Thanjavur. S. Vaidya Subramanian, Dean, Planning and Development, SASTRA University, opened the branch at the university campus. S. Pandiyan, Chief Judicial Magistrate, inaugurated it at Kumbakonam.
