Nagercoil: The police have stepped up vigil throughout the district, particularly in the border areas with Kerala, in view of the Statewide bandh called by the Dravida Munnetta Kazhagam and its allies for October 1 to urge the United Progressive Alliance Government to ensure speedy implementation of Sethusamudram project.

More than 1,500 police personnel would be pressed into service and vital installations would be guarded byarmed police personnel to prevent untoward incidents. Security would be provided at bus stands, railway stations, Central Government offices, All India Radio and other important offices. Action would be taken against those who indulged in violence and hinder normal life on the bandh day, said Superintendent of Police, Santhos Kumar.
