Bakrid, which is known as “Id-ul-Adha,” the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with gaiety in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts on Monday.

A large number of Muslims participated in special prayers conducted in different parts of Ramanathapuram district. “Khutba” prayers were conducted at various mosques in Sivaganga district.

Special ‘duas' were recited for world peace and harmony. Similarly, the Muslims living in areas such as Kilakarai, Erwadi, Periapattinam, Mandapam, Rameswaram, Sitharkottai, Alagangulam and other parts of the Ramanathapram district enthusiastically took part in the special prayers. Camel meat was distributed to poor Muslims in various parts.

The Bakrid festival was celebrated in Sivaganga district also.

The Muslims in Ilayangudi, where they concentrated in large numbers, took part in a mass prayer.
