CUDDALORE: As a fall-out of the Bahrain fire tragedy, in which eight labourers from Cuddalore district died, the district administration has geared up the law enforcing authorities to identify the moneylenders, who are said to be extracting exorbitant rate of interest, and take stringent action against them. In this connection the police on Monday took into custody Kanagasabai (70) and his son Ganesan (47). They reportedly lent Rs. 40,000 to Ranganathan (40) of Sethuvarayankuppam (that lost three persons in the incident) about a decade ago. Along with interest and principal, the debt has now accumulated to Rs.1.40 lakh.

When the moneylenders started pressuring Mr. Ranganathan for payment, he made a complaint to the police.
