Thanjavur: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded ‘B’ Grade to Periyar Maniammai University here.

Sukdeo Thorat, Chairman, University Grants Commission, gave the award to Vice-Chancellor N. Ramachandran in Bangalore last week.

The institution was declared a university in August, 2007. Previously, it was the first engineering college for women in the country. The university is also an ISO 9001 certified institution.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, professor Ramachandran, said that the ‘B’ Grade award would act as a motivator for further growth.
