An awareness programme for vendors of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme 2013 (VCES) was organised by the Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate, Tiruchi, and BHEL in Tiruchi on Tuesday.

The scheme enables vendors to pay service tax dues for the period October 1, 2007-December 31, 2012 without interest or penalty with the added benefit of immunity from legal action for non-compliance with service tax provisions.

Advising vendors in Tiruchi region to make good use of the scheme, Sansar Chand, Commissioner, Central Excise & Service Tax, Tiruchi, said that this was a golden opportunity for vendors to declare their service tax dues and come out of defaulter’s list by making a payment of 50 per cent of the dues before December 31, 2013 and the balance before June 30, 2014.

The event formed part of a series of awareness programmes organised by the commissionerate, to encourage assesses in the region to make use of the scheme.

A presentation on the benefits of the scheme was followed by an interactive session in which around 140 vendors of BHEL took part.
