SALEM: Consumers should be aware of their rights and responsibilities in order to prevent the commercial establishments from exploiting them, District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam has said. Addressing a consumer awareness programme organised for the government officials organised by the District Supply Office here recently, he said that officials should take stern action against the organisations which were giving bogus advertisements.

People should think twice before investing in any financial schemes. Officials should know about various acts such as Right to Information Act and spread awareness about consumer rights among people.

Tamil Nadu Consumer Vigilance Council chairman S. Selvam spoke about irregularities in fair price shops.
