Valparai: Waterfall Estates, Valparai, bagged three awards in the CTC category that included CTC leaf, CTC fanning and CTC dust.

A release from the estate said that Waterfall Estates won top honours in the CTC category of the fifth edition of The Golden Leaf India: Southern Tea Competition at the India International Tea Convention held in Kochi recently.

Over 200 entries had competed for the national level screening held at the United Planters’ Association of Southern India, Coonoor, on January 31.

A six-member jury panel, representing major tea packers in the country, exporters and leading brokers, tasted teas that entered the competition.


The final tasting panel at Kochi included Alexy Shvetsov (Russia), Ghassan Gharbawi (Iraq), Mahmoud El Nahas (Egypt), Marcus Wulf (Germany), Mehdi Hariri (Iran), Mohammed Heiza (Egypt) and Pradeep Jayathilak (United Kingdom).

Waterfall estates had around 3,000 employees.

An ISO 9001-2000 certified company, it had earned recognition for vacuum packing.

Such packing helped not only in retaining the quality but also efficient in handling and transporting tea.
