The Aravind Eye Hospital here has been awarded the S. R. Jindal Prize 2012 for its exceptional achievements in the field of health. The Rs. one crore award, shared equally with The Banyan, Chennai, was presented to R. D. Ravindran, Chairman, Aravind Eye Care System, by Sri Ravi Shankar at a function organised in New Delhi last week.

According to Dr. Ravindran, the SJ Foundation honours 20 outstanding selfless individuals and organisations with SR Jindal Prize of Rs. one crore each in eight categories, all related to social uplift.

The awardees from south Tamil Nadu this year also include Vivekananda Kendra, in the field of education, and Amar Seva Sangam, Ayikudy, Tirunelveli district, for exemplary service to mankind.
