TIRUCHI: Noted drama personality and founder of the Karumugil Kalaimanram, Muthuvelazhagan, was honoured with the F. G. Natesa (FGN) Aiyer Memorial Award – 2008 during the FGN Memorial Day organised by the Rasika Ranjana Sabha on Tuesday.
Late Natesa Aiyer was the founder of the Rasika Ranjana Sabha (RR Sabha). Padma Swaminathan, daughter of late FGN, presented the citation and the porkili to Mr. Muthuvelazhagan.
The citation recalled the yeoman services rendered by Mr. Muthuvelazhagan in promoting fine arts, particularly stage plays, among the common people for the past five decades. His acumen in presenting the episodes from epics, history, and on social themes in an innovative and creative manner was widely appreciated by all sections of the society. He excelled in the field of writing stage play, directing and acting. The award was in appreciation of his continuous service in this field.
Mrs. Padma Swaminathan recalling her father’s achievements said he lived for the sake of drama. Late FGN founded the R. R. Sabha in 1914 and used it as a forum for promoting and giving the much needed encouragement and support to amateur actors and drama troupes. R. R. Sabha became an obsession and an extended family.
The Director of Dalmia Cements, Gopalakrishnan presided. The secretary of the RR Sabha, N. Sekar offered felicitations. Later Tiruchi Ganesan troupe rendered a vocal concert.
