CHENNAI: A “good news” can be expected from the Tamil Nadu Government with regard to reservation for Muslims and Christians in education and employment, Education Minister K. Ponmudy said on Wednesday.
He was distributing awards of merit and cash prizes and scholarships to meritorious Urdu students at a function organised by the Tamil Nadu State Urdu Academy here.
The government would protect the interests of the minorities. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would give it (reservation), he said amid applause. The government sanctioned Rs.10 lakh to the academy last year, and also this year. He gave away financial assistance for publication of books to authors and poets.
The Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, urged the government to provide accommodation for the academy office soon and increase the grant given to the academy.
