Appeal from Commissioner of Police

CHENNAI: Commissioner of Police R. Sekar has appealed to the people to avoid bursting powerful firecrackers such as ‘atom bomb’ as it would cause high-pitch sound disturbing public peace.

In a press release, Mr. Sekar said crackers should be burst only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Firing of ‘rocket’ cracker was banned near huts and high-rise buildings.

While avoiding bursting of firecrackers near combustible materials, due care should be taken to educate children on the seriousness involved in fire accidents caused by firecrackers.

Those selling firecrackers should not use chimneys or candles in the shop, Mr. Sekar said.

Bursting of firecrackers would not be allowed in the one-km radius of hospitals and nursing homes, he added.
