TIRUCHI: A separate block to accommodate attendants of in-patients has been opened at the Divisional Railway Hospital in Ponmalai here.
Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, S. Subramhanyan, inaugurated the attendants block at the over 75-year-old hospital in the presence of Additional Divisional Railway Manager M. Selvaraj, Chief Medical Superintendent, Railway Hospital, Ponmalai P. Velusamy and hospital staff on Monday.
An old building that was once an isolation ward inside the railway hospital was renovated at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh under the railway staff welfare and amenities scheme and converted into attendants' block.
The new facility has been created for the benefit of the attendants looking after the in-patients at the 197-bedded hospital.
The attendants block has 12 beds with provisions for cooking besides toilet facility. The attendants could stay free of cost at the block, Dr. Velusamy said.
The hospital has 20 doctors from different specialities, he said adding that medical consultants from different specialities were being utilised as and when required.
The hospital had a modern operation theatre and was equipped with facilities including scan, treadmill and intensive care unit.
In addition to performing general surgeries, knee and hip replacement and cataract surgeries were also being performed at the hospital which has a blood bank inside, Dr. Velusamy said.
