A 55-year-old private security guard died after he was assaulted by his colleague outside an ATM kiosk belonging to a nationalised bank in Kottivakkam.

Neelankarai police said, the victim, Subramani, an alcoholic, had come to the Kottivakkam kiosk on Thursday evening to meet his manager and discuss some dues. They had an argument, following which another guard, Soundararajan (53), a resident of Kottivakkam, intervened. The guards got into an argument which soon snowballed into a fistfight. Subramani grabbed a stone to attack Soundararajan while the latter knocked him down with a baton.

Subramani suffered head injuries and was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.

Soundararajan was arrested by the Neelankarai police and booked for murder. He was remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison.
