TIRUCHI: The young athletes of the Rail Sports Club Athletic Academy (RSCAA) proved what hard work and self-belief can lead to through their commendable performance at the 81st senior State athletics championship. The athletes bagged a total of nine medals at the meet, which concluded at Palayamkottai recently.
N. Manivannan (javelin), K. Satheeshwaran (hammer throw), M. Manjula (10-km walk) and M. Malarvizhi (hammer throw) won gold medals, while N. Selvam (100m), C. Sivakumar (5000m & 10,000m) and D. Karpuramala (heptathlon) secured silver medals. M. Sasikala won bronze in hammer throw.
The youngsters have been practising under the watchful eyes of former international high jumper N. Annavi and his wife O. Gnanasuganthi.
N. Manivannan, N. Selvam, M. Malarvizhi and D. Karpuramala — have earned a place in the Tamil Nadu team for the 48th National inter-State athletics championship, which begins in Madurai on June 15.
