SALEM: The Association of Engineers (AOE) and Assistant Engineers Association (AEA) of Tamil Nadu Public Works Department (PWD) has appealed to the State government to grant pay scale for engineers on a par with Central government services.

The associations also wanted the government to rectify the pay anomalies during the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the State level Central Executive Committee meeting of the associations held here recently.

In another resolution, the engineers asked the government not to bifurcate the department during its sesquicentennial anniversary.

The government should initiate steps to hand over all the building activities carried out by various government agencies to the Buildings Organisation of the PWD.

Steps should also be taken up to recruit Assistant Engineers every year through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission in order to avoid the delay in the implementation of various welfare projects in the State.

The associations wanted the government to create a Chief Engineer (Minor Irrigation) post under the Water Resources Organisation of PWD to modernise the non-system tanks in various parts of the State.

The government should recruit only graduate engineers in the section level.
