The next camp to be conducted at Alangulam on Saturday
District Collector C. Samayamoorthy disbursed assistance worth Rs. 1.63 lakh to 39 differently abled persons in the second special camp conducted exclusively for the physically and mentally challenged here on Thursday.
He handed over welfare assistance that included hand-pedalled tricycles, callipers, artificial limbs, wheel chairs, crutches, modified three-wheelers, sewing machines, orders for monthly assistance of Rs. 1,000 etc. in the presence of Mayor Vijila Sathyananth.
As the differently abled are struggling a lot to get the National Identity Card, the document that recognises the holder as a physically challenged and allows him or her to get benefits and other assistances being extended by the State and the Central Governments, Mr. Samayamoorthy recently started the exercise of mobilising over 25 government departments at one place to give all the assistance to the beneficiaries on the spot.
After the first of this series attracted a huge crowd and yielded desirable results, the Collector announced that similar camps would be conducted in all taluks in the district before March 10 and the second camp was organised at Bishop Sargent School for the mentally challenged at Palayamkottai on Thursday.
The next camp will be conducted at Panchayat Union Office, Alangulam on February 16.
