KRISHNAGIRI: Under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, the health department has disbursed Rs. 7.80 lakh of the total allocation of Rs. 28.5 lakh to the beneficiaries, said Collector V.K. Shanmugam at a review meeting here on Saturday.

Mr. Shanmugam asked pregnant women to make use of the services of the Primary Health Centres or the Sub Health Centres in their areas.

He appealed to the Village Health Nurses to stay at the Sub Health Centres and explain to the rural women the dangers of delivery at home and ensure that all the deliveries took place at the SHCs.

Mahalakshmi, a Village Health Nurse in the Kuraparapalli SHC, received the Florence Nightingale National Award for her best service, the Collector said and asked the other VHNs to emulate her. Under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, pregnant women should register their names with the nearest PHC of SHC or the VHN in their fifth month of pregnancy. They would be given assistance to have nutritious food, Mr. Shanmugam added.
