Teaching of music has gradually declined over the years, said industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami at the inauguration of the 12{+t}{+h}Annual Fine Arts Festival, 2013, of Meenakshi Sundararajan Fine Arts Academy on Wednesday.

“When college students are exposed to this music, it will prove to be a learning process for them,” he said.

Carnatic exponent M. Balamuralikrishna inaugurated the festival, which will go on till December 21 at K.R.S. Auditorium in Meenakshi College for Women. Over 30 artistes are scheduled to perform.

K.S. Lakshmi, secretary of Meenakshi College, thanked Mr. Kuppuswami and former director of Doordharshan, A. Natarajan, for helping them conduct the festival.

Vocalist Sudha Raghunathan gave a concert after the inauguration.
