Reiterating his desire for more people from the Union Territory to join the Indian Administrative Service, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said students studying in arts colleges should consider writing the IAS examination.

The aim of the government was to give its people quality education, and the students should be able to utilise this to come up in life, he said. The government was also creating job opportunities by bringing in large companies to the UT, so education would play a key role, he added.

Delivering his address, Director of Studies at the Pondicherry University M. Ramadass said students need to realise that employers were now focussing on soft skills as well and so, before applying for jobs, it was important to spend a year improving one’s communication and other skills.

A total of 243 students received their degrees on the day.
