“The present strength is inadequate in conflict-prone pockets”
Coimbatore: The zonal conference and state executive committee of the Tamil Nadu Forest Staff Association have appealed to the State Government to increase the manpower to three-fold from the present strength in areas prone to man-animal conflicts.
A release from president of the Association, T.R.K. Kumara Menon, and State general secretary M. Nazeer said that the present strength was found to be inadequate in conflict-prone pockets and hence urged the Government to provide vehicles for such works and additional financial allocation.
The meeting also resolved to request the Government increase the salaries of the uniformed service personnel such as guards and foresters based on their work and educational qualification for which a one man commission was formed.
Another resolution sought immediate increase in risk allowance for the staff and also promotions. The meeting also sought supply of shoes for the personnel as assured in a Government order.
The meeting also sought an increase in the uniformed service field staff strength as it was done in the case of Indian Forest Service.
There was a pertinent need to fill up the vacant positions as well.
At present, there is a Closed User Group (CUG) cellular phone facility from Principal Chief Conservator to Forest Ranger and the same needs to be extended to the field staff and the problems in the CUG facility needs to be resolved.
The meeting also sought appointment orders on compassionate grounds to the heirs of the field staff who lost their lives while and after serving in Forest Department. Similarly, the meeting expressed resentment at the practice of the higher officials resorting to field visits, audits, inspections and camps on Government holidays or in the form of conducting training.
The meeting also urged the Government to revise the Forest Schedule of rates according to the present rate structures.
Uniformed Service personnel should be enabled to have their essential commodities in shops near their place of work as per the Government.
