Tirupur: A modern air-conditioned conference hall was opened at the District Police Office (DPO) here on Tuesday.

The facility, set up at Rs. 2 lakh, was officially inaugurated by retired Sub-Inspectors Madasamy, Shyamalan and retired Head Constable Shikamoni, all of whom attained superannuation on March 31 this year.

Superintendent of Police A. Arun said that the room would be utilised to hold meetings to review performance of various sections in the department beside for organising conferences and press briefings. Assistant Superintendent of Police R. Ponni was present.

First meeting

On the inaugural day itself, a district-level crime meeting was conducted at the conference hall in which Inspector General of Police (West Zone) P. Sivanandi, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore range) Bala Naga Devi and Superintendent of Police A. Arun participated.

Cash awards

Earlier, Mr. Arun gave away cash awards to 24 police officials holding ranks from constable to Inspector for their exemplary performance in crime detection.
