Coimbatore: The ongoing road overbridge work across the railway line near Hope College on Avanashi Road and the widening and strengthening of Tiruchi Road stretch from Bypass Road junction till Stock Exchange is expected to be over by May end or June first week, Mayor R. Venkatachalam said.
The Mayor, who is also the Chairman of the City Development Committee constituted in connection with the ensuing World Classical Conference, recently inspected both the works.
With regard to the bridge work near Hope College, Mr.Venkatachalam said that the officials had been asked to speed up the works and make the entire stretch available for traffic for the conference.
The procession of floats and the mega rally for the conference would pass over the bridge and the same was pointed out to the railway authorities and contractors in-charge of the construction work.
Even the revision in the cost of construction as sought by the railways had been sent to the Government for approval and the Highways authorities already had an administrative sanction for laying an approach road to the three lane bridge coming up.
Near Hope College, a two-lane narrow old bridge was demolished and a three-lane bridge was constructed along with approach road and the same was being used for traffic flow now.
The other three-lane span works were in full swing and the works had already crossed 50 per cent mark and the remaining phase of work was being speeded up.
