Udhagamandalam: The possibility of adding a touch of novelty to the 2010 Summer Festival in this vacation destination would be explored, said the Nilgiris Collector, Archana Patnaik, here on Friday.

Speaking to ‘The Hindu', she said that a suggestion to incorporate a theme in the event and use it for the benefit of the town, the tourists and locals would be considered.

Efforts would also be made to rope in school and college students.

Stating that the first meeting of the Summer Festival organising committee was held here recently, she said that it had been decided to inaugurate the festival on May 8 when the Rose Show would be held at the Government Rose Garden here.

The festival will go on till May 17 at the Hill Area Development Programme (HADP) auditorium.

It was also decided to organise a photo exhibition at the Lawley Institute here between May 9 and 17.

She added that the boat race would be held at the Ooty Lake on May 11 and the boat pageant at the same venue on May 13.
