RAMANATHAPURAM: The State Highways began relaying important roads in Ramanathapuram municipality limit. These roads were dug up for the underground drainage work.
Laying of road for 500 meters near Roman Church has been taken up at a cost of Rs.35 lakh. Similarly, relaying of Nainarkoil road has been undertaken a cost of Rs.67 lakh. Around 1,200 meters will be covered.
It is stated that it will give a relief to the people of Ramanathapuram, who have been struggling for the last three years.
Collector T.N. Hariharan told The Hindu that officials were asked to complete the work as early as possible. A few stretches, which were part of the National Highway, have already been completed.
He said a proposal had been sent to the State Highways to sanction laying of roads, which were not included, at a cost of Rs.1.45 crore. It would cover 2.3 km in the town.
