SALEM: Students of Salem Law College allegedly damaged furniture of the Yercaud police station on Thursday.

According to Revenue Department Sources, the incident took place in the evening when around 30 students went to the station demanding action against a truck driver and some shopkeepers with whom they had entered into an altercation.

They said trouble started when 10 students, who had gone to the hill station for celebrating the birthday of a classmate, entered into an argument in “inebriated condition” with the driver. They allegedly thrashed him.

The shopkeepers came to the rescue of the driver and reportedly took on the students.

When the students went to the police station demanding immediate action, they were told by the lone constable present that he required time to mobilise manpower. This angered the students who damaged the furniture.
