Some of them tried to picket the shop

COIMBATORE: A demonstration by the Manidhaneeya Makkal Katchi to demand total prohibition turned a bit violent here on Sunday when some of the activists allegedly threw stones at police personnel deployed there to prevent any untoward incident.

The activists assembled in front of a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) outlet, located opposite the exit of the Ukkadam Bus Stand as part of a State-wide protest to demand total prohibition.

Police said that some of them tried to picket the shop while some others attempted to get into it.

Police stopped the activists from doing so, even pulling some of them back when they latter allegedly tried to enter the shop.

Suddenly, the situation threatened to worsen as some stones were allegedly hurled at the police.

A woman constable was injured and treated for a minor bruise. Police said efforts were on to identify those who indulged in the stone-throwing.
